I came across a small birds nest today. I promptly decided to get my Canon Rebel and take some shots of it. After I uploaded them, I became fascinated with the intricacies of this little nest. I saw the way it was so imperfectly mastered. With pieces of nature brought together to make this home for these creatures of the air. Seeing the beauty of this nest made think of how Jesus said, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Then I thought about how many thoughts and words I have wasted on worries. How many purchases I’ve made to clothe insecurities. How distorted my reality of living simply really is. If God equipped birds with this intelligence and the tools to construct these nests from what they already have been given, then, really… how much more does He care for you and me?
Our reminders of these promises are all around us. The worries, the insecurities, the false senses of security are the intense screams during our days. It takes a quiet heart, a quiet mind, and some weakness to recognize the reminders. Quiet yourself and realize how much you are cherished and how much you are cared for.
Even birds understand this better than we do.
